I always find myself driving on th 10 through these areas and I'm Hungry and I don't want to go to anything I can see off the freeway. I know there's a cute little downtown Claremont area but I where will I eat.
I will always go here now. The food was awesome but they had me at the peanuts.

I went to Claremont the other day to check out "Some Crust Bakery" but due to my stupidity I didn't check the times it was open and had to find another place to eat at. So we found Heroes.
We were greeted very fast and I would say the service was very good, the best thing about the place! The next best thing was the beer selection (if I was still in college I would have been drunk within 30 minutes).
Now the bad part. This place is a good hamburger or sandwich place. I got the fried chicken and it was horrible, tasted like sweaty ass! That includes the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese (ass!)
She got a hamburger which was extremly good. Chocolate cake was the best I ever tasted (extreme chocolate people only).
I would go back and split a burger plate.
It was hot in Claremont...I'm talking BLISTERING HOT with hot winds.
Thank god I didn't pack on my mask before this outing otherwise it would have been a melted makeup mess.
So we walk into Heros in hopes to escape the heat wave with a nice cold one and air conditioning.
The first thing you notice right away are the peanut shells scattered throughout the restaurants.
Sweet! Peanuts! And I can throw the shells on the floor! I like that.
We sat down and ordered some beers and a pear cider for Moi.
The large drink is probably as big as my head. It's HUGE!
It's like drinking 2.5 beers in one glass.
That made me happy especially when I found out how much these went for: $9 dollars each!
I must warn you, do NOT come here if you're not hungry or if you're watching your calorie intake....this place serves BIG.
We ordered nachos (no joke; a full platter of chips piled high topped with chili beans, sour cream, guacamole, black olives and onions), rib tips (served with slaw and curly fries), hot wings (careful, these are nuclear hot) and a seafood basket (not the favorite).
All these items were big enough to feed a family of 20.
I literally felt like throwing up after I realized how much food was in front of me.
The service was exceptional...about 4 different servers came by to make sure we were okay.
I must add that we did find a piece of trash in the nachos...which is usually not a good thing...but they took it off the check and everything was fine.
Also, the seafood basket was nothing more than a breaded, flavorless disaster. And the rib tips were way too salty...I'm still retaining water!
The hot wings were soggy...I like mine crispy and moist...not drenched to the point where you're eating soggy hot batter.
Overall...its a fine spot for big appetites and thirst....and if you're into sports bar food...
I'd rather stick to my hood and go to EJs.

The first time and last time I went to Heroes was when I was in high school. Great, you guys think. Some emo high schooler who went to a bar/restaurant is reviewing this restaurant. Mind you that was a little over six-seven years ago. All I can say was that though the peanut shells on the floor, like everyone is mentioning, is pretty awesome. But despite this kitschy atmosphere, there was still not excuse for the extremely poor service.
I think I got there on an afternoon, not even a rush hour. It was 3PM, on a Tuesday. Really, no one was there, no one was waiting. Yet ironically I had to. I had to wait. 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge my existence. I thought this was odd. With an almost empty restaurant, you'd think service be quick. Strike one.
Before I was seated, two couples were seated before me. Wait, what? Yeah, that's right, TWO COUPLES were SEATED BEFORE me. That was with the "Excuse me, miss? Um, I believe I was here first?"
Strike two.
When I finally got to my seat and ordered a particulary easy club sandwich, I had to wait another 30 minutes to get my food. Seriously? 30 minutes? With only three other tables? And for a club sandwich? And I'm not sure what people are talking about the huge portions, maybe because I only ordered a sandwich, but it was just a regularly sized portion.
Strike three.
Maybe because I was young, or maybe because they just suck, that should really be no excuse to give such crappy service to anyone. And you think being a Claremont native would have been a plus. O well.

Love it! AMAZING beer selection and the nachos are to die for. Luckily, it's only a 10 minutes drive home from this place in case I get too f**ked up!!
Any place that feeds you shelled peanuts and lets you throw the shells on the floor is awesome. Some of the freshest food I have eaten. Their portions are huge. (Try the Potato Skins) Their beer selection kicks butt and it's a great place to just chill. If you go to college around Claremont then you have hit this place up.

The best thing about Heroes is that it doesn't fall into what I like to call "The Claremont Trap" restaurants and bars that have fallen deep into this crevace include The Press, Walter's, Viva Madrid...they try to be so much more then they are. Heroes, on the other hand is just a bar with a great selection of beers in an environment that's not pretentious and you can throw peanuts on the floor. I had their Fish and Chips and it was alright, not spectacular or anything, but good enough so that I would go back repeatedly. One star deduction for the peanuts served in little mini bags, what is this American Airlines??? Give me a basket of refillable peanuts!
First time I came here, I was with a group of friends. I heard good things about Heroes, but never really had the chance. From walking in, you hear, smell, and see the atmosphere. From the peanut shells on the floor, to the eclectic wall decor, it's a good place to eat.
Things to know about Heroes:
their beer mugs can be huge (massive even)
their soup specials of the day, when ordered with a bread bowl, are offered a refill of soup
their pulled pork (joe's pork i think it was) is great
their patty melt literally melts
they do not split checks
It has always been an overall good experience for me. I go here for soup every Friday at lunch. The waiters are nice and they always try to seat you as soon as they can.

If you prefer wine to beer...
If you prefer to be seated by a hostess vs. hovering over a currently full table and staking your claim when they leave...
If you like to "dine" rather than just "eat"...
Don't go to Heroes.
Heroes is a good bar with bar food and bar drinks and a bar attitude. But don't be fooled into thinking that it's a restaurant where you'll get any kind of service other than that of a true bar. The food is ok. The drinks are large. There are peanut shells everywhere. There are also people everywhere, and they'll stalk you as you eat and drink so that they can claim your table the moment your plate has been cleared.
It's great for what it is, and it fills a gap in the overly pretentious Claremont ultra-cool-organic-we're so-better-than-you places to eat and drink. I just don't personally like it because I prefer a relaxing atmosphere. But it's great for groups of young people at night.
This place has an expansive selection of beer on draft. Other than that they have really good burgers. I would recommend it for people who don't want to go to a quite place, cause it definitely can get loud. Overall this is a good spot, but don't roll if you're in a hurry. Plan on spending some time in this joint.
Screw the atmosphere, I come here for the food!! Yes, the peanuts they give you (salted and a perfect proportion) are great because you can throw the shells on the floor. But I enjoy the beer selection (lots of it) and the hamburgers. I order mine with the green salad, and it's worth the extra dollar they charge. Crisp lettuce, perfect tomatos, it's like a garden scene on your plate. The types of burgers are varied and have options like getting them blackened or with blue cheese crumbles!
Only negative part is the crowds. Whenever we walk over to get a bite to eat, there are people waiting inside and out to sit down. Note to self: go there at 3pm on a Wednesday.
Boyfriend and I came here post-brunch on Saturday. Thus, I can't really review the food, but did notice that there was a constant line of people waiting to sit down.
We sat at the bar and had two of the LARGEST Bloody Marys I've ever had in my life. I swear they were 32 oz. apiece! We also watched the gal make them both FROM SCRATCH which always impresses the crap out of me. Very very spicy and a perfect balance of tomato juice to vodka. Rock salt on the rim and a spear of 3 olives. I would have like a celery stalk, too, but I know that's stylistic by maker.
With your drinks, you each get a packet of ballpark peanuts (salted in the shell) and you can toss the shells onto the floor (always earns points with me in a drinking establishment).
The bar seemed to have a pretty decent tap selection (tho we did not partake) and the ambiance is sort of stepped up TGIFridays. Loads of antique portraits line every square inch of wall and a taxidermied moose head lords over the bar area in a skylight well.
Has a definite sports pub atmosphere, but I would go back for the Bloodys!
Food is decent... although nothing spectacular...
You come for the atmosphere and not the food though...
Throwing peanut shells on the floor is always fun!
The portions are more than generous... Appetizers are enough to feed you for 2 days...
Both the steak fries and the curly fries are really good...
Had the buffalo wings which were good and tried some pork rib tips which were pretty tasty too...
Heroes? It's aiiiiiiiiiiiiight...
Their beer selection IS pretty decent but the food is waaay whatever. My cousin used to love going to this place and get the steamed bucket of clams. I'd eat 'em cause I wasn't paying but they're rather lackluster thingies. And the burgers? I rather head down a few blocks to In-N-Out afterwards.
Definitely a chill place. I remember when the O.G. owners were in charge of this one and the one in La Verne. Since, the service seems to be like everyone else says, sub par. I mean I've never had my order ignored or waited an unreasonable amount of time for a drink but the dudes have an attitude-y, trying to be funny manner about them. I have however not always gotten my pack of complimentary nuts. DON'T YOU DARE STIFF ME ON THE PEANUTS! Those old school paper-bagged roasted peanuts are good!
Nothing special. I used to like this place more when I wasn't able to legally drink.
Almost worth 5 stars, but I subtracted 1 due to the unreasonably giant portions that cause me angst every time I try to plan an order or when I watch them carting off the huge masses of uneaten food.
That aside, this is great bar food with a stellar selection of beers. My personal favorite here is the old fashioned patty melt. I recommend you skip the fries and get onion rings or the homemade potato chips: both are divine!
Gets super-crowded many evenings by 6:30 or 7 PM. Decent place to take kids, though, since it's so noisy nobody will notice if your kid is yelling or crying.
Not the place if you want peace and quiet or to have much conversation.
Decent for medium-sized groups (~8). They have some large tables and will push others together for you - just be prepared for a BIG wait if you come at the wrong time. Bear in mind that you might have to flag down a waiter for service if the place is busy. But also know that ANY and all waiters are ready to help you out if you can get their attention.

Decent food and staff, could be better. Ordered the Jack's Chicken Sandwich, which was decent, nothing amazing. They did give me a lot of curly fries. I suggest having it with the spicy ranch dress. A bit on the pricey side. But it's usually one of the few places open.
Had to remind our waitress a few times to bring some items, but they were pleasant and apologetic about it. They'll let you togo your drinks (I ordered a Arnold Palmer), which was a lifesaver this past scorching, walking in oven weekend.
Great American food does not come any better than at Heroes!
I've been coming to this place as much as possible since coming to college 3 years ago. I have every birthday dinner at Heroes because the food is so good AND now that I'm 21, I can choose from the RIDICULOUSLY HUGE selection of beer they have!
The atmosphere at Heroes is half of the equation that makes this place so wonderful. Peanut shells litter the floor and all sorts of odd items and old photos hang on the walls. Along with all the great decoration and themeing of the restaurant, there are plenty of enormous flat screen TVs to watch football, baseball, basketball, or whatever on.
The food at Heroes is unbelievable. While this place does have overwhelmingly big serving sizes on both food and beverages, the great presentation hints at the deliciousness of all of the plates and appetizers. If you don't have a large stomach, I would definitely recommend splitting something with another person. ANYTHING on the menu is good though. I have not run into an item I have disliked.
The service at Heroes is generally pretty good but the last time I went it was sub par. The tables also tend to be a little sticky but that can be fixed if you ask for a cloth to wipe the table.
Great food, great atmosphere, amazing beer selection, and wonderful location makes Heroes a place that I make everyone go to when they visit Claremont!
This is pretty much my first review. I love to use Yelp to find great places, but its about time I start to put in some input. Why? Because this place sucks !!! And I want to warn everyone not to come to this place. Terrible, just terrible. Yelp needs to add a no star rating.
We first come in and they tell us to grab any seat. All the availible seats/tables were dirty. We actually had to clear our own!!!! Then the waiter/bartender asks us if we're gona eat, and we tell him yeah we're hungry. He says "ok" and we never see him again. Then some guy comes outta nowhere and wipes our table with a rag that looks like it just came out of a dirty mop bucket. Then while we were waiting, we see people go behind the bar and fill up there own glasses. That was when we left. If the service was that bad, I did'nt want to imagine what I would actually have to put in my mouth there.
Yeah, we actually did'nt eat or drink anything so we walked over to a thai place called Bua and had a two star evening.

On our first visit to Claremont, we had lunch here. Very atmospheric -- dark wood, old timey photos, and peanut shells on the ground. Had the ahi tuna sandwhich. suprisingly good. Burgers also a good choice.
Boy are the portions HUGE! I ordered a half salad & still ended up splitting that with a friend of mine. I loved the nachos... that was only polished off by having all 10 of us. If someone could eat that entire thing, I would probably buy them a round of drinks or a new belt.
The boys loved that you can throw the peanut shells on the floor. However, I was wearing flip flops & I certainly didn't like the feel of a peanut shell on my foot let alone in between my foot & flop.
We came in a fairly big group (about 5 boys & 5 girls), which obviously meant more money to spend. Though most places would be great to have us, however I felt a little unwanted in this place. The service was sub par... I never got my water that I asked for 3 times. Maybe she only wanted to service me my Guinesses, oh well.
For sure a place to go, just to hang with friends & talk college ball or about the good 'ol days.
I used to eat here weekly but since the change in ownership the food has really gone downhill. I was there for lunch and ordered my usual blue burger. Asked for it rare, but was told they don't cook them rare anymore only medium well. I get the burger and it is warm on the outside and cold in the center. When I quizzed the server, she informed my that all burgers are now precooked and just reheated that is why it was cold and why no more medium or medium rare burgers. Another person in a party ordered fish and chips as she had on many other occassions. It was no longer large thick fluffy pieces of fish, but looked fresh out of the Gorton's box. We were told they no longer make them there. Disappointed we went to split the bill and noticed that we came up short. We looked at the bill and the menu only to find the prices printed on our receipt were higher than the menu. We paid the bill and on our way out mentioned to the waiter that he may want to compare the prices in the computer to the prices printed on the menu. After inquiring with the manager, he came back and told us that the prices in the computer were raised because the manager wanted to see if anyone would notice. Well since we had eater there at least weekly the three of us noticed that our bill was over $10.00 higher than it would have been if we had been charged the prices printed on the menu. It is sad to see this place go to pieces so quickly. Hopefully the new pub/burger place opening up will be as good as Heroe's used to be.
I was told about this place with peanut shells on the floor etc (I have mild case of OCD) :-p
I came here with my friend for her birthday and I figure it can't be too much food if she likes coming here (being 90 lbs).
Portions were huge even for me who was is still referred to as the food disposal.
Service was excellent, came by asked questions helped recommend what to get for first timers and even drinks.
Of course the food was excellent and I think I had food coma for days.
I'm sure to gain tons of weight if I come here often enough.
Parking: I parked somewhere else, but plenty of parking in the area to walk to here.
Wait: I came a bit late so I didn't have to wait at all, but I hear this place gets crowded.
Heroes is a bar with a good amount of beer on tap, TV's in various places and it is located in the charming little village area of Claremont, CA. But these guys do some really good food... I should say BIG portions of really good food. Burgers, gigantor nachos, super mega sizes of beer... not to mention a wide range of tasty dinner entrees. Come expecting to share a plate, or you can try and tackle a full on meal by yourself. It is a great place to get stuffed and then have a walk around Yale Street afterwards to think about how much food you just ate.

The first thing you need to know about Heroes is that half the time, the service is really bad. There have been times when I went in and the service was just fine but there have also been occasions where my friend and I will be sitting there for half an hour and no one will ask us what we want to order.
Onto more positive things, I love that you can throw peanut shells on the floor. I love that the beers are HUGE! I love that the food portions are HUGE!! And not only huge, but really tasty! I don't mind leftovers so for me, Heroes is also great because you have another meal taken care of. The ambiance is very laid back. The crowd is composed of the typical chill, Village-going, Cmonter.
So overall I would have given Heroes 5 stars but iffy service at a restaurant (with the exception of chinese restaurants because those are a completely different issue) is something I'm not really a fan of. Especially when the food is so good. I just want someone to come take my order so I can start having some deliciousness in my stomach, dammit!!

an acronym thing dedicated to HEROES. the restaurant.
Huge portions allow
Everyone to go home full,
Raving about meatloaf and corn.
O, the memories!--
Enough chili fries to feed a pack of wolves,
Shells of peanuts on the floor, like nobody's business.
