Black bean chicken: excellent and spicy. Hot and sour soup: excellent! I've had a few other things here too and they've all been good. It's usually pretty empty because this mall has always been faulty but if you are in Seal Beach or Surfside or Sunset, or near the coast in Huntington this is a perfect place to eat good Chinese food with no hassle and easy parking.

I know of about 3 Chinese restaurants outside of San Francisco that I can tolerate. This is one of them.

We went there for dinner because we had another Chinese restaurant in mind but this was considerably closer and we thought it would be easier to get in.  We were right - it was not as crowded as we've seen it.

We ordered sauteed spinach (part of my Popeye syndrome), beef chow mein, and beef with green peppers.  We might have gone overboard on the beef but everything was delicious.  And it was more than we could eat so the left overs were just as delicious.

This short stretch of PCH has several places and only one of them seems to be always crowded.  The Panda Palace has always had room and now I would say it has very tasty food.  Now we know where to start and tweak from here.

I came on Father's Day and it was pretty empty.  Service was very attentive but how could they not be attentive when barely anybody was there!  The food tasted a bit bland and greasy for my taste...and hey, I'm a fan of greasy food!  We ordered the beef and asparagus, the eggplant and spare ribs casserole and crispy duck.  I didn't like that the rice was so healthy tasting, I could barely pick any of the rice up with my chopsticks (and I'm Asian so I know how to use chopsticks!) and I think they offer a brown rice alternative to the white rice.

I don't know how to describe the food - it wasn't anything authentic but it wasn't anything as commercially tasty as Panda Express or Pick Up Stix.  I wouldn't recommend this to anybody who is a fan of Chinese food, maybe I would recommend this to people who don't like trying new/exotic foods.

I will definately not be going back to the Panda Palace!  I know service at chinese restaurants can be bad, but the waitress didn't even know the items that I ordering off the menu and I had to physically show her which items I was ordering by pointing them out to her.  My husband ordered a dirty martini and she had to come back and ask again what it was.  When the food finally arrived it was not even worth eating.  I was probally better off going to Panda Express!

Peter's Landing is a black hole for restaurants, so while I desperately hoped for a good new restaurant here, I didn't have much hope.

But Panda Palace delivers the goods: I particularly liked the twice-cooked pork and the Kung Pao scallops.  Oddly enough, when I got the beef and broccoli for my kids, I thought this bland but tasty standard had been overcome with seasoning.

--

After another couple visits I'm beginning to wonder; it's almost as if you should only order twice cooked pork or kung Pao; all of the dishes come out with a simlilar spicy brown sauce it seems.  The kids wouldn't eat their favorites as done by Panda Palace - Moo Shu, dumplings, orange peel beef (well tangarine here).

--

I wouldn't go ordering a dirty martini here; but then again I wouldn't order a Martini in  most Chinese restaurants, and I wouldn't be getting a dirty one anyway.
